Make the Big Bucks with the Top 5 Surveys Online

Getting a second income source is almost mandatory in this challenging economic environment we live in today, as more and more people with college education cannot seem to make enough money in order to pay the monthly bills and to make a decent living. Fortunately, thanks to the Internet and the many opportunities it brings us, obtaining fast and easy money is nowadays a possibility for those who want to live according to higher standards and be able to support their families.

One manner to look at this is to make money with paid surveys online. Online surveys are usually questionnaires sponsored by big and reputable companies or service providers who are eager to improve their services and products according to the target customer?s needs and preferences. Instead of paying for expensive marketing campaigns or studies that are not always accurate or efficient, it is much easier to go directly to the source.

In order to find the best paid job filling out surveys you can check the Internet for the top 5 paid surveys online, to be sure you?re working with professionals that respect their promises. To make a clear distinction between genuine and authentic websites and fakes ones, one criterion to use is the subscription fee. While real survey websites allow free registration with the program or even offer incentives and bonuses upon subscribing, fake websites require the user to pay a fee and make big promises about huge profits in the first week.

In order to get real results with online surveys, you should try and understand how this process works, so that you don?t get your hopes up and feel disappointed afterwards. This is definitely an easy to do and profitable job, but until you get the hang of it, profits may be harder to obtain. You can find websites that pay from $5 to $50 per survey, so once you get experienced in this job, you can aim for bolder goals.

If you really want to make it big in this business and receive even $100 per each completed survey, you should invest effort and time, trying, every step of the way, to familiarize yourself with the subject and to understand the requirements. You can even consider quitting your permanent job and focusing on completing surveys from your home if you think this will work for you. It?s not hard or complicated, but you should be determined and patient.

Paid surveys are a great way to earn extra money and, if you are good at what you do and you understand what it takes, you can even quit your day job and focus on making the big bucks with filling out online surveys.

Once you hit the high seas your first stop will be in the northern Jamaican town of Ocho Rios. Though once a fishing village this town now primarily caters to tourists. It has a wide variety of fine restaurants and nightclubs. There is even a place called Dolphin Cove where you can literally swim with the dolphins!

The next stop is Grand Cayman, largest of the Cayman Islands. The great thing about Grand Cayman is the variety. Stick to the west side of the island if you prefer the comforts of home with fast food restaurants and plenty of tourist amenities. If you are feeling adventurous, however, you can check out the eastern district restaurants that specialize in native Cayman Islands cuisine.Even on just this five-day trip, you are sure to return suntanned and relaxed!

If you can make it across the street try and check out the Magen?s Bay Arboretum. It has many exotic and rare plants including some that can only be found on St. John?s.

After that it is off to Tortola, largest of the British Virgin Islands. Surfers flock to popular swells like Cane Garden Bay and Apple Bay. Get out there and catch a wave or just sit on the beach and take in some sun.

Great Stirrup Cay and its crystal clear 80-degree waters are your last stop before returning, chilled out and feeling great, to the city of Miami.

Southern Caribbean

Royal Caribbean has a great 7-night cruise of the Southern Caribbean on board the Serenade of the Seas. You will set sail from beautiful and historic San Juan, Puerto Rico. Get there a few days in advance so you can take some time to wander around the maze-like streets of Old San Juan.

Once everyone is on board you will head to Bridgetown and then to Castries, capital city of Saint Lucia. There are lots of historic landmarks in Castries to explore. These include the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Derek Walcott Square, and Fort Charlotte, located on the top of Morne Fortune hill.

This cruise ports in St. John?s before heading on to Philipsburg in the Netherlands Antilles. One unusual attraction in Philipsburg is the short runway of the airport, located just by the beach. Planes have to fly unusually low (30-60 feet) over nearby Maho Beach to land. The jet blast from departing aircrafts actually causes artificial waves that are a hit with visiting and local windsurfers! This cruise winds down in St. Croix before heading back to San Juan. You?ll have had so much fun you won?t be ready to go home!

If you feel like the stress of your days is finally getting to you. If you are looking for a trip that can please the whole family and allow you to just kick back and relax. Don?t hesitate. Book your Caribbean cruise vacation today.

Designing for the physical world

This article originally appeared on Imprint.

Dear Student:

ImprintAs a new school year is upon you, you're probably entering your junior or senior year at a design college somewhere. You've talked with your peers, consulted your advisors and finally picked the right design classes for yourself. Some of you may have recently graduated and are currently looking for a job. Either way, this is a pivotal time for you, and lots of questions and concerns are probably rolling around in your head: money, bills, getting a good job, doing work you're proud of and, perhaps most important, figuring out what part of the industry you belong in. And design schools like my alma mater, the School of Visual Arts, are constantly staying up to speed with the trends and needs of the industry in order to prepare you for the world that awaits.

Lately, there has been an onslaught of graphic designers who have expressed their thoughts on where the industry is heading. Many feel that we need to learn how to design for the Web. It has been discussed here by Patric King, eloquently written here by Frank Chimero, and powerfully stated here by Ben Pieratt. They're encouraging us, and rightfully so, to transform our current skills and services in ways that will undoubtedly be more beneficial as the industry continues to evolve toward the Web.

thoughts

As someone who's had a hand in design, branding, three-dimensional experiences, and advertising in a short period of time since graduating, I realize the Web is something I haven't touched very much of. Not because I haven't wanted to, but because I've been busy -- outside of my day job -- working on my steeze in other areas of interest, such as quasi-illustration and writing. As August Heffner recently mentioned, I've learned a lot by working with my hands, and I get satisfaction in being able to do so. And as I am currently preparing myself for a couple of interactive projects, and finishing my new portfolio site (HTML with elements of HTML 5 and CSS to implement some of the more responsive features) with these awesome people, I want to highlight the other side of the coin that isn't being heard as much.

While it's important that you consider your work in a Web-based context, it's also important to know that there are young, successful designers out there who are holding on to the guts of graphic design -- far away from coding, being a Web "nerd," pimping on Twitter, or building a career that just involves talking and writing about a bunch of stuff. I'm speaking about the young designers who are consistently creating handmade or illustrative imagery that is memorable, iconic and fearless.

When I was a kid, I was proud to have bruises and scars on my body after playing outside. Having bruises and scars meant I was having fun. It seems so many designers forgot how to get dirty, mechanically following the fear that's being pumped into the industry, and abandoning the fundamental desire to make tangible, satisfying work. The fear that tells me to design for the Web -- or rather, the feeling I have inside that tells me I'm an idiot to miss out on this immeasurable opportunity of unlimited resources -- is nothing but a ploy to keep me away from doing something I may really want to do.

speak and love

American mythologist and writer Joseph Campbell talked a lot about the idea of "following your bliss." He tells a story of a family sitting next to him in a restaurant one day. The father was upset that his little boy wouldn't eat all his dinner. The boy's mother says to the father, "Just let him do what he wants." The father, greatly annoyed at this, responds back, "If he does what he wants then he'll get the wrong idea, and he'll never understand. I've never done anything I truly wanted to do in my life!"

Too many of us are desperately focusing on pushing code and pixels, simply doing what others have suggested, never finding our own voice, forgetting why we set out on this journey in the first place. Do you remember why you entered the design field? What your dreams were? Can you remember the first life drawing class you had? Do you remember the first lecture you went to? The sensations? The butterflies? I would imagine that it had nothing to do with the Web.

art

All you need to do is pick up a New York Times, or a book jacket, and you'll see the conviction of young designers like Matt Dorfman and Chris Brand. All you have to do is check out the work of Paulina Reyes, Friends of Type or Elle Kim to find young designers who seem to have their heads down, steadily pounding out bold, handmade imagery. I'm envious of and inspired by their tenacity and humbleness.

If you're passionate about something and you work extremely hard to do it well, there will always be a place for you and your talent in whatever realm of design you're in. Don't believe the hype. The time you're spending frantically learning Web tutorials, or trying to come up with grand interactive ideas, could be time spent learning how to draw better, or learning how to write better. We definitely need more young graphic designers who are working on building a unique and articulate voice within the industry. And even more so, we need articulate young designers to be actively doing great work, too.

It's very important to recognize the capacity of this arena; hone your craft, but don't ignore the possibilities of the Web. Ben Barry is a good example of a young designer at the cross-section of both the interactive world and the world of craft. Designing for the Web is a huge part of where the industry is heading, and I'm personally excited about it. However, don't forget that the work you ought to be doing is the work you should be doing. If you think that you should be designing for the Web, then you will undoubtedly make that happen and that's a wonderful thing. But, it's not the same story for everyone, and it certainly isn't a blanket recipe for success in this industry.

As you enter this profession, nervously trying to get a job under the pressure of the industry, please do not defeat that small voice inside that may be telling you something. And in this age of the Web, it's more important than ever that we celebrate those young designers who are making electric imagery with their hands, for clients, in the name of graphic design.

With luck,

Tim

Attacking 'wealthy' philanthropists hurts the poor | Hank Adler | Op ...

A significant portion - $400 billion over 10 years - of President Obama?s jobs bill is apparently funded through the limitation of itemized deductions for the ?wealthy.?

This proposal would create a perfecta of unintended public policy consequences.

First, taxes for wealthy philanthropists would go up while taxes for wealthy Scrooges, those who make no charitable contributions, would remain virtually the same.

Second, if the philanthropists decide to reduce their philanthropy because of the additional taxes due, charities would have less revenues and would need to contract their charitable missions. Not good.

Over the years, the Internal Revenue Code has been amended and amended again. These amendments have severely reduced or eliminated the availability of most itemized deductions for the ?wealthy.?

Under current law, exclusive of charitable contributions and home mortgage interest, most ?wealthy? taxpayers do not receive significant tax reduction from their itemized deductions in calculating their federal income taxes.

Because of the alternative minimum tax, ?wealthy? taxpayers are already limited in their ability to benefit from their tax deductions for state income and property taxes.

?Wealthy? taxpayers also rarely receive any benefit from medical expenses, casualty losses or miscellaneous deductions because of limitations that have been in the Internal Revenue Code for decades.

This leaves only the home mortgage interest deduction and the charitable contribution deduction to be impacted by the president?s proposal to limit the benefits of itemized deductions.

The home mortgage deduction is currently limited to the interest on a $1 million mortgage. With interest rates at 5% or so, the maximum tax increase related to home interest for any individual taxpayer from the proposed limitation on itemized deductions would approximate only $3500.

Therefore, the expected increase of $40 billion dollars a year in federal revenues for the next decade must be funded from ?wealthy? individuals losing a portion of their itemized tax deduction resulting from their charitable contributions.

Consequently, we get to this unusual social result. If a ?wealthy? philanthropist donates $1 million dollars to the Red Cross in 2012 and then does so again in 2013, his or her taxes would increase by $70,000 in 2013 over 2012.

If the ?wealthy? next-door neighbor, Scrooge, made no charitable donations in 2012 and continued that pattern in 2013, Scrooge?s taxes would not increase in 2013. Now there is a piece of public policy - let?s raise taxes only on the good guys!

Most 'wealthy' individuals donate to charity only after determining how much they can afford in after-tax dollars. One has to think that the practical result here is that many, if not most, ?wealthy? taxpayers would reduce their contributions to achieve the same after-tax cost of their charity.

So, by raising the taxes on the ?wealthy? philanthropist, the proposed bill would very likely punish the poor by reducing the funds received by the local food bank etc. as large charitable donations decline. It is odd public policy, in troubled times, to propose a jobs bill that would hurt charities and therefore the poor.

The president needs to pull this idea off the table. As a society, we need to encourage charitable deductions rather than, in reality, putting into place a new federal tax surcharge on charity. We need to honor ?wealthy? donors and protect the poor, not the opposite.

Hank Adler is a professor at Chapman University, a retired Deloitte partner, and author of the recent novel, ?From Three to Five.?

Breast Cancer Rates Jump Worldwide, Study Finds - Health News ...

By Steven Reinberg
HealthDay Reporter

WEDNESDAY, Sept. 14 (HealthDay News) ? The number of new cases of breast cancer has jumped dramatically worldwide, from about 640,000 in 1980 to more than 1.6 million in 2010, University of Washington researchers report.

Over the same period, the number of cases of cervical cancer has crept up much more slowly and deaths from that cancer have declined, although in 2010 it still killed 200,000 women around the world. In 2010, 51 percent of new cases of breast cancer and 76 percent of the 454,000 cases of cervical cancer were in developing countries, the researchers noted.

?The world used to think of breast cancer as a problem that only high-income countries had and cervical cancer as a problem mainly for developing countries,? said coauthor Dr. Rafael Lozano, a professor of global health at the university?s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.

?What we have found is that while countries such as the United States and United Kingdom have been able to greatly lower the risk of women dying from breast cancer, through better screening and treatment, countries with fewer resources are seeing their risks go up,? he said.

The world rightly recognizes that no woman should die because of complications related to pregnancy and childbirth, Lozano said. ?Now that we can clearly see the trends in breast and cervical cancer, they need to become a central part of the discussion when priorities are being set for women?s health programs,? he said.

The report was published in the Sept. 15 online edition of The Lancet.

For the study, Lozano and colleagues collected data from more than 300 cancer registries and cause-of-death offices in 187 countries.

During the 30 years covered by the study, breast cancer cases have increased in all parts of the world by 3.1 percent a year, the researchers found.

In addition, among women aged 15 to 49 there were twice as many cases of breast cancer in developing countries than in developed countries, they note. Deaths from breast cancer were also higher in developing countries compared with developed countries.

However, around the world the increase in deaths from breast cancer has been slower than the increases in cases. This may be due possibly to early detection and treatment advances in developed countries, the researchers say.

?It is clear from the data that since the late 1980s, women who develop breast cancer have had a better chance of surviving because early screening is working and treatment is working,? Lozano said.

In 1980, one out of every 32 women in the United States risked dying from breast cancer. By 2010, one out of every 46 women had that risk, he added.

When one looks at countries where screening and treatment are not as widely available, the trend is in the opposite direction, Lozano said.

?In Zimbabwe, for example, the risk has gone from one in 64 women dying to one in 35. Not only is the threat of breast cancer and cervical cancer shifting more heavily toward developing countries, it also is shifting to women of reproductive age,? he said.

It used to be that these cancers were predominately a problem for women over 50, but more and more women in sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and South Asia are being hit by these cancers between the ages of 15 and 49, Lozano said. ?In Bangladesh, more than 60 percent of women dying from breast cancer are under age 50,? he added.

Since 1980, new cases and deaths from cervical cancer have increased mainly in south and east Asia, Latin America, and Africa, but have dropped substantially in high-income countries, particularly where widespread screening is available, Lozano?s group found.

?Our concern there is that this is a disease that is almost entirely preventable through safe sex practices and early detection, yet it continues to kill? hundreds of thousands of women every year, Lozano said.

Ahmedin Jemal, vice president for surveillance research at the American Cancer Society, said the increase in breast cancer diagnosis is partly to increased awareness.

But most importantly, he said, the risk factors for breast cancer include reproductive factors such as late child bearing and late menopause. These factors increase with economic development [and so] increased in the developing world ? not as much as in the developed world. But, that?s the driving factor,? he said.

In addition, obesity is a risk factor for breast cancer and it has been increasing around the world, Jemal said.

To reduce the incidence of breast cancer, Jemal says, more awareness of early detection and access to care is needed. Also, women should be encouraged to reduce the known risk factors for the disease, he said, such as obesity.

As far as cervical cancer is concerned, the increase in developing areas is due to lack of access to screening with Pap tests, he said. With the development of the HPV vaccine, Jemal said he hopes to see the rate of cervical cancer decline, especially since drug makers are making the vaccine available at a low price to developing areas.

Chemists help astronauts make sure their drinking water is clean

ScienceDaily (Sep. 14, 2011) ? Bob Lipert held up a syringe, attached a plastic cartridge and demonstrated how chemistry developed at Iowa State University is helping astronauts and cosmonauts make sure they have safe drinking water at the International Space Station.

Each cartridge contains a thin, one-centimeter disk that's loaded with chemistry, said Lipert, an associate scientist with Iowa State's Institute for Physical Research and Technology and an associate of the U.S. Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory. Run a 10-milliliter water sample through a disk and it will change color in the presence of iodine, which NASA uses to inhibit the growth of microorganisms in the drinking water stored at the space station. The disk will turn from white to yellow and, as it's exposed to higher concentrations of iodine, it will turn to orange and finally to a rust color.

A handheld device -- a diffuse reflectance spectrometer -- can read the disk's color changes and precisely measure the concentration of molecular iodine, or I2. The whole process is called colorimetric solid phase extraction.

Starting in late September, Lipert said astronauts at the space station will use new developments and procedures that convert all forms of iodine in the water samples to molecular iodine. That will give astronauts a more precise reading of total iodine in their drinking water. Lipert said they'll know in real time whether there's too much, too little or just enough iodine in the water.

Disks loaded with different chemistry can also measure and record concentrations of silver, which the Russian Federal Space Agency uses as a biocide in its water supply at the space station. As silver concentrations increase, disks turn from yellow to purple.

Before Iowa State chemists helped develop the new tests, the only way to test the space station's drinking water was to send samples back to earth.

"We figured out the chemistry and put it into a form that can be used in space," Lipert said. "We also took lab techniques and simplified them as much as possible. And we developed procedures that can be used in the absence of gravity."

The result is a quick, accurate test that doesn't use up much drinking water or much astronaut time.

"What's neat about what we came up with is that all the chemistry we need to do can be accomplished in about one minute per sample using a little, 1-centimeter cartridge," Lipert said.

It took some work to develop the test's chemistry and procedures. The NASA-sponsored project began more than a decade ago under the direction of Marc Porter, a former Iowa State professor of chemistry and chemical and biological engineering who is now a USTAR Professor at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Lipert has worked on the project since 2000.

Other Iowa State researchers who have worked on the project include Jim Fritz, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Liberal Arts and Sciences; former post-doctoral researchers Matteo Arena and Neil Dias; and former graduate students April Hill, Daniel Gazda, John Nordling, Lisa Ponton and Cherry Shih. Lorraine Siperko, a research scientist at the University of Utah, has also worked on the project.

The university researchers have also collaborated with the Wyle Integrated Science and Engineering Group, a NASA subcontractor that helped develop and certify the water-testing hardware that has been deployed on the space station.

After a series of successful space tests in 2009 and '10, the researchers' water-testing equipment is now certified operational hardware and is part of the space station's environmental monitoring toolbox.

Lipert said the testing technology can also be a useful tool in many earthbound applications, including forensics tests for drugs, environmental tests for heavy metals and water quality tests for pesticides or herbicides.

"This is a very flexible platform," he said. "You just have to work out the chemistry for each substance you're analyzing."

Community celebration for new track at CML Snider School

A community celebration is planned to open the new track and field facility at C.M.L. Snider School.

EVENT DETAILS
DATE: Thursday, September 22, 2011
TIME: 3:00 p.m., following the Terry Fox Run through Wellington
LOCATION: C.M.L. Snider School, 240 Main Street, Wellington

Background
The track and field complex at C.M.L. Snider School needed to be resurfaced as it had deteriorated to the point of disrepair. Along with safety concerns, the facility located in the middle of Wellington presented a negative image in an otherwise thriving community. The Lakeshore Track Association, headed by Lisa Lindsay, worked with the County of Prince Edward, community partners and Hastings Prince Edward District School Board to develop a solution. Together they were successful in fundraising over $140,000 to resurface the track this summer with a rubberized surface.

C.M.L. Snider school is renowned for hosting high-quality track meets. School sports teams from throughout Prince Edward County and the entire district come to Wellington to compete against the C.M.L. Snider Cyclones and also to experience the professional setting that the track and field complex provides aspiring track athletes.

In addition to track meets, the C.M.L. Snider track is also used for physical education classes, as well as by community members for sports training, walking, jogging and fitness testing. The new track complements the many recreation and sports facility initiatives constructed within the County of Prince Edward in recent years, such as the new Esroc Arena which has with an indoor walking track, the dog park and the skate park.

MacFarlane writes Sheen's obituary for 'Roast'

Charlie Sheen may claim to be clean and sober, but comic Seth MacFarlane isn't quite convinced.

In fact, during Saturday's taping of Sheen's upcoming Comedy Central Roast (airing Sept. 19), MacFarlane went so far as to draft a preview of the actor's obituary.

PHOTOS: Charlie Sheen's epic year

"We all know there's a good chance Charlie will be dead soon, so I wrote an obituary," MacFarlane told the audience at Saturday's taping, before revealing how 'Charlie Sheen' was 'found dead in his apartment.' "Actually, I kind of just copied Amy Winehouse's obituary," he admitted. "I only had to change three things: The sex of the deceased, the location of the body and the part that says 'talent that will be missed.'"

PHOTOS: Look back on Amy Winehouse's life and legacy

MacFarlane wasn't the only one to fete the star during the no holds barred bash, which was attended by his ex-wife Brooke Mueller, Jon Lovitz, William Shatner, Jeffrey Ross and others.

"Jackass" daredevil Steve-O was so excited to participate in Sheen's special that he was willing to endure physical pain to prove it.

C Programming Home-Based Commercial Computer Courses ...

We all have a great number of demands on our time, and inevitably if we desire to learn a new profession, training in addition to a 40 hour week is what we have to do. Training tracks certified by Microsoft can fill that gap. Maybe you?d choose to have a chat about jobs with a person who?s got industry experience ? and if you haven?t come to a decision, then have some guidance on what sort of job would be best, based on your personality and ability level. Training courses should be designed to reflect your ability level and skill set. So, having worked out the right IT job for you, your next requirement is the relevant route that will get you into that job.

OK, why might we choose commercial qualifications rather than the usual academic qualifications taught at the state educational establishments? With a growing demand for specific technological expertise, industry has moved to specific, honed-in training only available through the vendors themselves ? that is companies like Adobe, Microsoft, CISCO and CompTIA. This usually turns out to involve less time and financial outlay. Higher education courses, for example, clog up the training with a great deal of background study ? and a syllabus that?s too generalised. Students are then prevented from learning the core essentials in sufficient depth.

What if you were an employer ? and you required somebody who had very specific skills. What is easier: Pore through loads of academic qualifications from several applicants, trying to establish what they know and which workplace skills they have, or choose a specific set of accreditations that precisely match your needs, and draw up from that who you want to speak to. The interview is then more about the person and how they?ll fit in ? rather than establishing whether they can do a specific task. Pop over to www.Retraining4Adults.co.uk for excellent guidelines.

Considering the amount of options that are available, does it really shock us that most potential trainees have no idea which career they could be successful with. How can we possibly grasp what is involved in a particular job when we?ve never done it? We normally haven?t met someone who does that actual job anyway. Consideration of the following issues is vital if you want to get to the right solution that will work for you:

* Which type of individual you reckon you are ? the tasks that you really enjoy, and don?t forget ? what you definitely don?t enjoy.

* Do you hope to accomplish an important aspiration ? for example, becoming self-employed as quickly as possible?

* How highly do you rate salary ? is an increase your main motivator, or is job satisfaction further up on your priority-list?

* Learning what the normal career roles and markets are ? plus how they?re different to each other.

* What effort, commitment and time you will spend on your training.

To bypass the industry jargon, and find what?ll really work for you, have an in-depth discussion with an experienced professional; a person that can impart the commercial reality whilst covering the certifications.

Coming across job security these days is incredibly rare. Companies will throw us from the workplace with very little notice ? as long as it fits their needs. But a marketplace with high growth, with huge staffing demands (as there is a massive shortage of fully trained people), opens the possibility of true job security.

With the computing business for example, a recent e-Skills analysis brought to light a skills gap across Great Britain around the 26 percent mark. That means for each four job positions in existence in the computer industry, there are barely three qualified workers to fill that need. Accomplishing proper commercial computing accreditation is accordingly an effective route to succeed in a long-term and rewarding livelihood. Without a doubt, now, more than ever, really is the very best time to consider retraining into Information Technology (IT).

Literature: Strategic planning and performance in small businesses ...

September 10, 2011 at 8:50 pm?-?Views: 10
News about Small-Business performance,small business,starategic planning,

Since the mid-1970s, we can conclude that the researchers, the distinction between small and large business needs, sophistication, and range of strategic planning. Bracker, and Pearson (1986), Rue and Ibrahim (1998), Perry (2001) and the Wijewardena, Fonseka and Zoysa, Perera (2004) all make definitions for strategic planning, taking into account the uniqueness of small businesses, and allows for the fact that small businesses will not be able to draw on the administrative and material resources in a manner that is similar to that of a large organization. So-called studies findings suggest a relationship between the strategic planning and performance. Nevertheless, the findings are mixed. A survey of twenty-six experimental studies on Miller and Cardinal (1994) to identify a significant positive association between strategic planning and small business performance. Robinson (1982) found significantly high profitability, as well as an increase in sales and return on sales and the number of full-time employees in a group of small businesses that employ external consultants for strategic planning. Compared to other businesses, and Bracker discovered Pearson (1986) a significant increase in income and remuneration per entrepreneur in the enterprise that prepared strategic plans (the highest of the four designated levels of strategic planning). No significant increase was detected in the target salary expenses divided by the sum of sales. A differentiation in the sales increase was found by the Rue and Ibrahim (1998) small business that incorporated written planning (Basic or Advanced), as opposed to other businesses. Perry (2001) found a significant difference in the degree to which planning was carried out in small businesses that did not applied for bankruptcy as opposed to those who did. Wijewardena et al. (2004) define three levels of planning: no written plan; basic planning; and detailed planning. The findings show that the level of planning is in direct proportion to the degree of increase in sales. Yusuf and Saffu (2005) classify the three levels of planning: low; moderate; and high. A connection was found between the increase in sales and the low level of planning. Found no relationship between the strategic planning and the increase in market share and profitability.

After 20 years of rumor-mongering against Troy Aikman and others ...

Troy Aikman gay rumors again took center stage last week when the Hall of Fame quarterback was asked by Dallas radio host Dan McDowell about Skip Bayless? 1996 book that discussed rumors that Aikman is gay. Aikman and the radio hosts spent a whopping 60 seconds discussing the rumors in Bayless? book, and all of Aikman?s comments were entirely about Skip Bayless.

?When a guy like that comes out and, whether it?s intimated or stated and there?s no substance to that claim, and he?s doing it purely to gain interest in a book, that?s a problem,? Aikman said.

He talked about not seeing Bayless since 1995, wondered aloud if Bayless himself is gay, and said he just didn?t know what he?d say to Bayless if he saw him again. McDowell said Aikman didn?t seem angry, and you can hear in the audio recording (below) his pretty even tone. Aikman?s comments tell us he despises Bayless, not gay people.

Yet many gay commentors immediately took to the Internet to spread nasty, mean-spirited venom at Aikman. While Andy Towle reported the straight news, his readers called Aikman a ?fag,? ?loser,? ?self-loathing,? ?closet case,? ?pathetic,? and saying ?everybody in Dallas? knows Aikman is gay.

If Aikman had said something anti-gay, I wouldn?t blame him.

When I was in fourth grade, I had a crush on Jennifer Holden? but a girl named Donnella Carter had a crush on me. One day Donella tried to kiss me and I refused. That afternoon I first heard the word, ?gay,? and it was directed right at me. The next morning I came into school and this word popped up all day long. All through middle school and high school, I was labelled gay. I heard it daily. I came to resent it over the years and became increasingly homophobic as I learned what the word meant. As I began to realize in junior high school that I might be exactly what these kids were calling me, the bullying rumors pushed me deep into the closet.

For years figure skater Scott Hamilton was assumed to be gay. He too heard it for years. In an often-labeled ?gay? sport like figure skating, it was tough for Hamilton to get away from the rumors. Despite marrying a woman and having children with her (which many gay people will quickly remind you ?proves nothing?), it persisted. Not surprisingly, a chip grew on Hamilton?s shoulder, and the Olympic gold medalist has made not-so-gay-friendly comments over the years.

Whether it?s Aikman, Hamilton or myself, nobody likes being bullied with rumors of any sort. Some rumor targets take it out on the bullies, as did the young men who opened fire on Columbine High School in 1999. Some people take it out on themselves, as did Rutgers student Tyler Clementi in 2010. Either way, they take it out on someone.

With all the gay rumors we as a community spread, at some point we need to accept responsibility when they take it out on us. And while Bayless has become the face of this rumor, it like so many others has lived and breathed because the ?gay community? wants it to.

Despite the current vogue push against bullying, the ?gay community? has for years used the same fear-mongering we see in homophobic bullying. Just look at the nasty attack-of-words It Gets Better creator Dan Savage consistently wages against those who disagree with him. We often use the ?gay? label as a weapon, whether it?s against celebrities or even friends. Just this past weekend a friend of mine tried to insult someone at a dinner party by calling him ?a big old bottom.? While ?bottom? isn?t synonymous with gay, the implication that gay is ?less than? is crystal clear.

Enter Troy Aikman. The man was the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. He was a six-time Pro Bowler, won the Super Bowl three times and was the Super Bowl MVP once. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008. Shortly after retirement he was named to Fox Sports? lead NFL announcing crew, where he has been ever since. He is one of the most decorated and recognizable football players in history.

When he sits down for a radio interview, he?s asked about the 20-year-old rumor that he?s gay. And when he derides the face of that rumor, gay people attack him for it.

We see it with countless other athletes, actors and politicians. Whether it?s Steve Young, Christian Laettner, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Charlie Crist or Aaron Shock, the collective gay community feels the desperate need to ignite gay rumors and fuel them. Then when the target of these rumors occassionally says something that isn?t all warm and fuzzy, we call him homophobic.

When we talk to athletes about why no active pro athlete in the big four sports has come out, and only a handful of retirees have said they?re gay, this is exactly what we hear about. Athletes want to be known for their athletic accomplishments, not their sexual orientation. There?s no evidence that Aikman is gay, yet just a baseless rumor has left him answering questions about it 10 years after retirement. Thousands if not millions of gay people are convinced he?s gay because it makes them feel better about themselves. And with every question Aikman has to answer about his sexual orientation, it pushes gay athletes mindful of their legacy deeper into the closet.

It?s time for our community to make a choice. Are we going to be that bully in fourth grade who pushes gay people deeper into the closet and makes enemies of potential allies? Or will we spend the time we?d otherwise use spreading gossip to make our world easier for those gay people to be themselves and those allies to be a little warmer and a little fuzzier?

For now, our community is so addicted to gay-based rumor-mongering that the vast majority just can?t help themselves. But if we?re ever going to treat people with the respect with which we ask to be treated, at some point we will all have to collectively grow up and stop contributing to it.

Business Marketing and Solutions ? Graduate jobs in Construction ...

Construction Industry Information

The construction industry in the UK is massive huge, employing about 10% of the entire workforce. Unlike other jobs such as technology jobs that have restrictions on places where one can work, it is not so with graduate jobs in construction. Construction is one of the oldest professions in the world and one can find work from the smallest rural towns to the largest cities in the country.

?

It is anticipated that in the coming years, over 87000 graduate jobs in construction will be compulsory in the UK each year. Such jobs will require graduates who have expertise in construction management, engineering, architecture and business process coordination. That said, the financial crisis that hit many Western economies including the UK between 2007 and 2009 has seen a significant reduction in the number of graduate jobs in construction created.

?

The next step after University

As a graduate looking for construction jobs in London, having a good idea of how it is like working in the industry will increase your chances of finding a job and thriving on the job. There are a few avenues you can take in do this such as applying for an apprenticeship, where you can genuinely get to grips with what it?s really like to work in the construction environment. Companies also offer Graduate and Management Training courses for eager and willing graduates once they have completed their studies.

These schemes are available to apply for during the start of the year (some are also available to apply for throughout the year), so candidates can complete the recruitment process, shortlisted and finally be chosen to start during fall. Note that not all companies follow this procedure; there are companies who have two or more intakes of graduates or apprentices during the year, where they offer part time or temporary positions within their organisation.

?

Entry Requirements and Pay Package

It?s good to do your research before you start looking for your ideal graduate job in construction, the minimum entry requirement many employers ask for is 2:2 grade, but there are some that do require a 2:1 minimum grade.

The pay for graduate entry level construction jobs in London starts at GBP 22,000 per annum. The bigger the company, the higher the starting salary is in all probability to be with a higher remuneration being offered by multinational construction firms. If you are looking for construction jobs in London, where you look will play a key role in whether you can find a good job. Using an internet jobs board with proven credentials will give you a leg up against the competition.

What to expect from your Graduate Job in Construction

The work environment in the construction industry is very fast paced. One must keep abreast of the ever evolving techniques, equipment, skills and technology required to execute the job well. Time is of the essence too when performing the actual job. Projects operate on strict timelines. Any project deadline breach and extension will have a direct impact on the cost of the project both in terms of raw materials and staffing.

?

What many new graduates find most alluring about graduate jobs in construction is the challenge and intellectual stimulation they get as they work. There is also the added benefit of seeing one?s work eventually actualize into a building, road, airport or bridge that is to the client?s satisfaction. It must be said though that this thrill is also sometimes the source of the downsides of construction jobs in London. The job can be stressful due to the level of coordination and multi-tasking required. One has to make quick but well thought out decisions often under pressure to satisfy all stakeholders.
