Texas A&M police searching for missing freshman Thomas Johnson

Campus police are looking for a Texas A&M football player, Thomas Johnson, who has reportedly been missing for more than 48 hours as of Wednesday evening.

According to a press release from the university police department on Wednesday, the 18-year-old freshman wide receiver was last seen leaving his residence around 5 p.m. on Monday evening. No additional information has been released concerning the nature of his disappearance.

Johnson signed with A&M in February out of Skyline High in Dallas, where he was named an Under Armour All-American and widely regarded as one of the most coveted prospects in the nation at any position. (He reportedly chose A&M over offers from Oregon, Miami and Texas, among others.) As a true freshman, Johnson has played in all 10 games this season, starting two, and ranks third on the team with 30 receptions for 339 yards and one touchdown. Saturday, he had three catches for 22 yards in the Aggies' 29-24 upset over No. 1 Alabama.

In a statement, A&M coach Kevin Sumlin described Johnson as "a tremendous student-athlete, greatly admired by his fellow teammates and all of us on the coaching staff," and encouraged anyone with information to contact the Johnson family or authorities.

Here's the full release from the Texas A&M Police Department:
